introduction
yaspi is a POP3 mail scanner specifically done to combat
mailbox floods caused by virus like Swen.
It connects to the POP3 server, looks at the headers of the new
messages and deletes those that seem to be virus generated
without ever downloading them.
yaspi most interesting feature is that it can
automatically send abuse reports to the ISPs where the mails
were originated. This way, most infected machines will be either
disinfected or disconnected from the Internet (and so, sending
infected mails!).
features
- it's free, distributed under the GNU GPL
- runs under Windows and Unix/Linux (maybe under Mac OS X, but
untested)
- virus detecting rules are fully customizable
- integrated with Ricochet to send abuse
reports

do you want to collaborate?
There are several things you can do to improve yaspi:
- subscribe to yaspi mailing lists and help other people to install and use it
- sent me
bot.cfg
templates for your favourite ISPs so I can include them with yaspi
- a tutorial explaining how to install the GUI version including screenshots of all the needed steps
- icons for the GUI version
- translate the documentation to other languages: Italian, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, etc.
Send me an e-mail if you want to do any of them or any other thing that you think yaspi is missing.
